My name is Sebastian Prada and I will be presiding over the Legal committee. On behalf of the entire CAMUN faculty, we blithely extend our warmest welcome to this committee.
For more than 2,000 years, money laundering has been around in many different forms, as criminals organizations have cycled assets through complex financial transactions to hide income from government bureaucrats. Nowadays, given the rise of internet-based financial engines, along with the rise of credit cards and mobile payments, money laundering remains a huge problem for governments, businesses and especially law enforcement agencies.
Over the last decade, the international security community is facing, without a doubt, many challenges. The need to provide timely and sound defense has increased the request for private militarization. The international environment has transformed and is more complex compared to the one that shaped the intelligence services during the Cold War era. To sum up, governments have decided to privatize part of their intelligence and military needs, but this choice raises some critical questions: Are governments turning national security into business? Ιs the private sector in a position to penetrate international laws ?
Pedantic preparation and cooperation is expected from everyone involved to make the best out of the experience and explore solutions for every circumstance addressed during the committee. We keenly appreciate your preference in this committee and it is an honor to travail it alongside you.
