It takes much pride to give you a warming welcome to CAMUN 2020. My name is María del Cielo Martínez and I, alongside my co-president, Isaac Jasbón, will be presiding the SPECPOL committee. I am really excited to preside this committee, being one of the most important in the United Nations, in my senior year of high school, and want to do my best; give it all for the committee and delegates.
The world is always at a constant change; countries seeking for power and the population being affected both social and economically. We are in the right moment to start seeking for change, moreover, to be the change the world needs. For that, we need to inform ourselves daily about what is happening in the world and what has led to these currently existing problems.
Imperialism has been present in the world since the 1900th century, causing many political, social and economic problems by governments seeking to increase their size and power. Nowadays, people tend to believe that imperialism is not present anymore, but it is much present. In the SPECPOL committee, we will be focusing on the effect of modern day imperialism on the economy of countries and the major powers.
Delegates who join the SPECPOL Committee should be ready to discuss current controversies and debate significant issues that affect the world's economy through effects of this modern imperialism, as well and searching for viable and democratic solutions to the problematics that show up during the committee.
